Description

Mario is a character and the titular main protagonist of the Mario franchise, which is owned by Nintendo, a Japanese gaming and entertainment company.

Mario is a jolly, kind and playful yet heroic and brave plumber of Italian descent (with some media claiming he and his brother Luigi are from Brooklyn, New York), known for saving the Mushroom Kingdom from any sorts of danger. His brother is Luigi. and goes into adventures with him for a long time. His rival is Bowser and tries to protect the kingdom from the villainous Koopa. His love interest, Peach, is the kingdom's sweet and kind ruler, and they have been friends for a long time.

Mario's biography and personality is rather simplistic because Nintendo intends to make him fit for many different games and scenarios, but most of the time, he's depicted as happy and brave hero.

Mario first appeared in Donkey Kong in 1981. In this arcade game, he saves Donkey Kong from Pauline (known as Lady at the time). In 1983, he and Luigi, his brother, appeared in their own game, Mario Bros., which involves the brothers in the sewer system full of enemies that the brothers must take down. But 1985 is the most influential: Super Mario Bros. was released for the NES and became a very big hit, therefore really kickstarting the Mario series, and so are more of the appearances of the character.
